An Oasis of Healthy Alternatives in MK

E-mail Print PDF

There is a positive expectation when you walk into the Health Oasis on Bradwell Common Boulevard.

The positive expectation may be a result of Health Oasis' authoritative stand-alone location perched at the top of Bradwell Common Boulevard. Health Oasis’ residential location means it does not compete for attention with other commercial units which gives it automatic exclusivity.

It is actually a hair salon and hair stylist, but Health Oasis clearly offers much more than a cut and blow dry as their slogan proclaims, ‘a whole new you in a whole new way’.

The first thing you notice is the spotless open plan L-shaped interior that exudes a no-nonsense professional approach to hair care. A good stylist should be “... a good listener, up to date on all the trends and constantly looking to improve” says Chris Hater, Health Oasis’ bubbly proprietor.

Bubbles apart Chris is a perfectionist who knows hair. Whether it’s Afro, Euro or mixed, it makes no difference to Heath Oasis, they cater for all types. This is a unique feature of Health Oasis, as rarely will you find a hair salon which caters for Afro and Euro hair.

You would be hard-pushed to find a salon in MK that does both types, and by the looks of it, Health Oasis does it better than salons that specialise in one or the other. Take for example “dual mixed heritage hair” Chris enthuses “... on one head, you can have three different hair types.

The roots can be tough and wiry, the middle curly whilst the ends quite straight. If you’re not experienced in dealing with types of hair it can pose a real problem”.

The difference Chris suggests is that at the Health Oasis they identify the client’s needs, but often the client does not know what they want, “... so we are here to guide them”.

According to Chris their biggest triumphs are their customer service and hair manageability. For example, “... you will never have to queue as we operate an appointments system and we keep customer record cards that details the health of our client’s hair”.

Customers are regular too. According to Chris most clients come either once or twice per month. One such regular is Pauline: Customer since 2003, Pauline visits every fortnight which is based on consultation and advice.

Pauline says she has tried elsewhere but the service, care, attention to detail, and professionalism she receives at Health Oasis has never been matched.

Health Oasis opened its doors on 17th July 2003, but its roots, if one can use the phrase, can be traced back to ‘Sensations’ hair salon in Bletchley which also had a ‘mixed’ staple of clients. Chris muses, “Sensations was a slightly different animal, back then (mid nineties) we played RnB and hip hop really loud...” In contrast, ambience in the Health Oasis is now set with music by Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Chopin indicating Health Oasis’ gravitation towards delivering a calmer service. Chris’ approach is not only refined, but holistic, as she elaborates on why hair care at the Oasis is as much about emotional and physical health, as it is about healthy hair.

The positive expectation at Health Oasis is one of refreshing excellence that allows Health Oasis to deliver “a whole new you in a whole new way”. Black or white, male or female: whether it’s relaxing, perms, colour treatment, cuts and styling Health Oasis has it covered. All first visits get 20% off and they run a ‘recommend a friend’ scheme which earns John Lewis and Waitrose vouchers, so if you have great expectations for hair care visit Chris and her professional team at the Health Oasis.
